David And Goliath
by Gene Minix
Goliath the Philistine was a big man most would say.
When Saul's army saw him they wanted to run away.
Send me a man over, in loudness he would call.
But wasn't a man willing to challenge him in the whole army of Saul.
So this giant would laugh and mock God and the army each day
And not a word back at him would the army say.
They were so afraid of this mighty big man
With six toes on each foot and six fingers on each hand.
But one day, young David came, his brothers food to bring.
Nothing but a song on his lips and in his pocket a sling.
Who is this giant mocking God and His people,David asked that day?
Why don't you go out and put that giant away?
You don't understand they all told David, he's a mighty Philistine.
David said, don't care who he is, he's gone too far, he's stepped over the line.
Let me at him, I'll put him six feet under the ground.
This big uncircumcised heathen is hell bound.
Saul heard the news and had David brought to him that day.
Said Saul, for the head of this giant, I'll give my daughter away
To you, David, she's sure beautiful as can be.
Getting rid of that big and nasty giant means that much to me.
Take my armor upon you Saul to David did say.
Nah, David said, thanks, but take the armor away.
Then David walked down to the little brook there
And took up him five stones shiny and fair.
Goliath laughed at this young shepherd boy as he drew near
But David looked him square in the eyes and had no fear.
Goliath though it would be an easy task putting David away.
Ah, but on this day, God was going to have His say.
David cried out in words loud and clear, you come with your sword.
But I come to you, Goliath, in the name of the Lord.
Then David let the stone go, and it hit Goliath square in the head.
Everyone knew that this was it, Goliath lay stone dead.
David took Goliath's own sword and whacked off the giant's head.
When the Philistine army saw it, they all turned tail and fled.
You see the soldiers looked at the giant and said he's to big to hit.
David, looking through the eyes of God, said my target's so big no way I can miss it.
Ah, with God on our side it makes all the difference you know.
Goliath was a mighty big man in size but by a young man with faith in God, he was brought low.
So always remember that nothing is too hard for God, it is true.
And when you stand up for the Lord, He'll stand up for you!

SHADRACH, MESHACK And ABEDNEGO
by Gene Minix
In the book of Daniel we are told
Nebuchadnezzar had an image made of gold.
Word went out and this is what it said,
Unless you bow to the image, you will be dead.
When you hear the music, bow down, the herald cried
And the people there were so terrified.
But there were three young men that day
Who wouldn't bow when the music would play.
They were Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego.
They wouldn't bow because they loved God so.
Didn't matter how many times the herald did call
The three Hebrew boys just stood there brave and tall.
Well, word reached the king that day
Said these three young men to you won't pray.
Nebuchadnezzar was mad as he could be,
Said have them brought this very minute to me.
We won't bow to your image, oh, king
To do so would be an evil thing.
Jehovah is the only God we bow down to.
Oh, king, we will not worship you.
Do what you want to us, king.
But we won't do this wicked thing.
If our God want, He will set us free.
And if not, that's still alright you see.
We'll be with Him on this day.
We're God's children and you can't take our life away.
Our bodies may burn in that furnace hot
But our souls will live, eternal life we've got.
One more chance, boys, I'll give.
Bow down to my image or you'll be killed.
Well, he had their hands all bound.
Threw them in the hot fire, oh, what an awful sound.
They would be gone in an instant and everyone would know.
That Nebuchadnezzar was king and what he said would go.
But, God is God, and God had other plans
For the Hebrew boys who bodly took their stand.
The king soon returned expecting only ashes to be.
But, he sure got a big surprise, ashes wouldn't what he'd see.
There in that fire their hands not wasn't bound
And there were now four men in there walking around.
King Nebuchadnezzar said didn't we cast three in the fire.
Well, there's four walking, the Son of God is there.
Oh, the mighty lesson, people please learn.
They would not bow and they would not burn.
For their witness to the people that day,
The king turned to God and had this to say....
If any speak amiss against the true God they will be killed.
Listen up, people, you better know that God is real.

REMEMBER MRS. LOT
by Gene Minix
A long, long time ago
We're told in the Bible of a wife
Who lived in a time
Filled with sin and strife.
A time when people chose
To do just what pleased them.
They didn't care what God said,
They refused to listen to Him.
But God is God and He sets the rules.
He tells us what is wrong and right.
And He knows what is in man's heart
Even in the darkest of night.
The Lord warned of judgment,
Said it was on the way.
You can't live in sin and get away with it.
What you sow, you'll reap one day.
So the day came just as God said.
And two angels told Lot to get out of that place.
Said Lot and your family, whatever you do
Don't look back, be sure and not turn your face.
Well, the sun was risen upon the earth
When Lot entered the city called Zo'ar.
And sure to His Word, the Lord rained down
Fire and brimstone upon Sodom and Gomor'rah.
But Mrs. Lot had grown accustom
To that old town and its sin.
So she turned her face back
To look upon the city again.
I'm sure she probably said
Looking back can't be a fault.
But God is always true to His Word.
Wham.....Mrs. Lot was made a block of salt.
The moral of this story
Is very, very plain and clear.
When God tells us somethig
We had better hold it dear.
Because God never never lies
And what He says He will do.
Just thought I'd write the words
Of this little poem to remind you.
Don't get accustomed to a way of sin.
It will never, never pay.
Just like what happened to Mrs. Lot
You'll face the judgment one day.

THE WOMAN TAKEN IN ADULTERY
by Gene Minix
Jesus had been at the mount of Olives
And He prayed to the Father above.
Early in the morning, He came down
And to the temple to share God's wonderful love.
The people came early in the morning
To hear our Lord teach and share.
He sat down among the people
And, oh, the power of God that was felt there.
On this day, the scribes and Pharisees came
Bringing a woman they had caught in sin.
They wanted this adulteress stoned to death
Because these were "righteous" men.
Ah, but Jesus did something that took them by surprise.
He knelt down and begin to write on the ground.
As though he heard them not speaking,
As if they were not even around.
He then asked which of them was without sin
As He stood and looked them right in the eye.
The one of you who is without sin,
Let him cast the first sone that this woman die.
We don't know what the Savior wrote
With His finger on the ground that day.
We can only imagine what it was,
But condemned by God, the men all walked away.
The woman was left there alone.
She must have wondered what Christ would implore.
He rose and asked her where were her accusers.
None, Sir, she said. Neither do I, Jesus said, go and sin no more.
There is no one who has not sinned.
Everyone of us, God could condemn.
But Jesus came to save our soul.
Oh, how I thank God for Him.

Mary Anoints Jesus (Matt. 14:3-9)
by Gene Minix
One day Jesus came to the town of Bethany
At the house of Simon the leaper He sat down to break bread.
A woman came with an alabaster box of spikenard, very precious.
She broke the box of ointment and poured it on His head.
She gave from her heart this sign of love.
She knew that soon he would be dead.
Some of the people got very mad
That she'd pour something so expensive on His head.
But Jesus rebuked them, said leave her alone.
What she did was no small gest.
She has done what she could,
From her heart of love she gave her very best.
Jesus said let this be preached a memorial for her
Everywhere the Gospel is preached, it should.
She gave from a heart filled with love her very best.
She hath done what she could.
Some people may give diamonds or a vast domain.
They may shower one with riches galore.
But when you give deeply from a heart of love
You cannot give more.

BALAAM and the DONKEY
by Gene Minix
In the Bible there is a story that's told.
It happened back in the days of old.
The man's name was Balaam and there was a donkey, too.
Listen very closely and I'll share the story with you.
Balaam was a very foolish man the Bible tells you and me.
He had a double mind, right off we see.
God said to Balaam don't curse my own.
Balaam first said no and then yes and then he was gone.
But on his way, his donkey suddenly balked.
And when Balaam stuck the donkey, that donkey talked.
And I'm sure old Balaam was stunned at what he heard.
A donkey that opened his mouth and spoke words.
Now the reason the donkey spoke to Balaam that day
Was that an angel stood there in the way.
The angel stood there all ready to kill
Balaam that day for disobeying the Lord's will.
Now the lesson that we can learn today
Is we'd better listen to what God's Word has to say.
If God can make an old donkey talk
We can surely trust Him in our daily walk.
Balaam was overcome by worldliness, a pawn of Baal.
What a sad, sad story his is his to tell.
Now you can turn in God's Word to learn more.
Just open your Bible to Numbers 22 through 24.
Now if God used a donkey to warn Balaam of his plight.
We can surely trust His Word to know wrong from right.
Let us open the Bible and read it each and every day
And follow God's teaching all the way!
