A FEW THINGS TO DO ON A RAINY DAY

by Gene Minix

We woke up this morning
To a rainy day.
And it's still coming down
All day and night it's suppose to stay.
Now you may wonder
What you can do
On a rainy day?
Well, I'll just tell you.
Let me share a few things
That you can do.
My rainy day friends,
These are just for you.

Now you can always
Kneel and pray.
You need to do that
Each and every day.
You can visit someone
And a smile you can share.
I know your friend
Would love to have you there.
Add up your total earnings
That you have made.
And to feel good don't add
The taxes you have paid.

Look for loose change
In your sofa and on the floor.
You might even find
A dollar or more.
Call up someone
You haven't talked to in a while.
It'll make you both feel good
And I'm sure it'll bring a smile.
Improve your penmanship.
Can't hurt, you know!
Clean the piano keys.
Is there something you need to sew?

Read your Bible.
What a grand and wonderful book.
Did you remember to feed the cat,
Better go and take a look.
Silicone your boots.
Winter is coming on.
Hey, why don't you sit down
And write yourself a song.
Put a potato in a glass of water.
It'll make a pretty plant, you know.
Or did you know?
Well, you do now. I just told you so.

Take a road map
And see if you can get there from here.
Fix that torn cushion
On your favorite chair.
Knit. It's good for the nerves.
Manicure your nails.
Close your eyes and pretend
That on a cruise ship you're about to sail.
Call someone and offer to listen
If they have troubles to share.
It sure might make their day
To know that you really care.

Make a Christmas list.
It's not all that far away.
Count raindrops on the window.
You can only do that on a rainy day.
Watch some good reruns on TV.
Curl up with a blanket and take a nap.
Clean the oven, defrost the refrigerator
Or hold the cat in your lap.
List all fifty states
And their capitals, too.
Oh, there is so much
On this rainy day you can do.

Write a poem to your love one.
Discard those unidentified keys on your ring.
Take down the hymn book
And play the piano and sing.
And if you can't play the piano,
Just sing anyway.
Don't know about you
But I love a rainy day.
Now, I could go on and on.
There's hundreds of things you can do.
Thought I'd sit down for a while on this rainy day
And share just a few of them with you.
