GREEN GRASS AND YELLOW DAFFODILS
GREEN GRASS AND YELLOW DAFFODILS
by Gene Minix
You out glowed the sun.
I still can see the smile on your face.
A young woman of eighteen,
Blue jeans and blouse trimmed in red lace.
You kicked off your shoes
And ran barefooted through a field
Of sweet smelling grass
And beautiful yellow daffodils.
I stood and watched you run
And I laughed with you.
And you yelled for me to come
And run barefooted, too.
Through the green meadow,
Spring breezes blew your hair.
We raised our arms and soared
Like an eagle without a care.
We held hands and we sang,
Two young spirits so in love.
Running through grass and yellow daffodils
'Neath bright azure skies above.
We were the only two people
In the whole world that day.
So in love with each other
We passed the time away.
Our love is still there
And it's true and strong still today.
But the carefree spirit got lost
In the cares of the world from day to day.
But I think I hear the gentle breeze
Whispering to me still.
To pull off shoes and come run and play
In green grass and yellow daffodils.
Will you come and run with me
Like we did in long ago day?
Kick off our shoes and barefooted go.
Come on, what do you say?
Our bodies are a little older
And hair turning gray.
There's a few aches and pains
But that's really Okay.
You are still so very beautiful
And our love is real.
Come let me hold your hand in mine
And run through green grass and yellow daffodils.
Young at heart is all that really matters.
And young at heart I feel.
It's just you and me in the whole wide world
Running through green grass and yellow daffodils.
